- Client: DPD Ireland
- Sector: Logistics
- Location: International
Company Background
DPD was founded as InterLink Ireland in 1986. With 10 depots and the central hub based in Athlone, Co. Westmeath. Driven by innovation and technology, DPD has become the largest dedicated parcel delivery company in Ireland, with 35 depots throughout the country handling more than 20 million parcels per year.
Key Outcomes
- Creation of a standardised process for accounts payable
- Increased transparency and autonomy across financial reporting
- Increased Security around payments and data accessibility
- Increased efficiency & productivity amongst the accounts payable team
The Challenge
The main challenge for DPD Ireland was keeping up with the sheer volume of payments across the organisation – and considering the growing network of depots, often managing up to 600 suppliers on a regular basis.
The expansion of the company over the past few decades has necessitated the need for a reliable, scalable solution that can easily manage and streamline the accounts payable process, both internally and externally.
Having used the same financial software for over 20 years, the needs of the company outgrew the system’s core capabilities for accounts payable, particularly around reporting visibility and security. This prompted DPD Ireland to seek a more reliable, intuitive, and secure solution for processing company-wide payments as the business continued to expand its operations in Ireland and internationally.

Our Solution
The Thrive difference really does lie within our direct support before, during and after the onboarding process.
1. Review of Requirements
We began by assigning a dedicated Thrive expert to work alongside the team in DPD Ireland. We wanted to give DPD the best possible start, and the freedom and autonomy to control every aspect of their accounts payable system, from the ground up. We then undertook a thorough review of the existing system, recording all necessary requirements in order to build the perfect solution.
2. System Configuration & Data Import
The challenge for us was to ensure a seamless migration from the existing system to Thrive, and having direct contact with the team at DPD we were able to deliver a complete data migration and system configuration, without interruption.
3. User Training
As part of our user training program, we set up a test company within the Thrive platform so that DPD could receive initial training within a test environment. This is crucial to the overall go-live process as the team in DPD was able to learn about the platform in real time and familiarise themselves with the functionality and capabilities of their new system without worrying about mistakes.
Our dedicated Thrive expert delivered a series of online training sessions, as well as providing a full user manual for the team at DPD.
4. Go-Live
Transitioning from a test environment to a live environment can be scary, particularly when dealing with accounts payable. After a phase of in-depth testing and user training, DPD developed a high level of confidence and familiarity with Thrive accounting software, moving to a live environment in early 2021. Since go-live, Thrive has continued to work with DPD in all aspects of support and training. Peace of mind for our customers comes with knowing that their dedicated Thrive expert is just a phone call away.
Results
For DPD Ireland, it became evident almost immediately that Thrive was able to offer a lot more transparency around reporting. Given the sheer volume of payments, this necessitated the need for an enhanced reporting function, which Thrive has helped to deliver.
Thrive’s ability to import CSV files and upload data at the click of a mouse has hugely reduced the time involved in preparing reports and financial data for DPD, creating more time for day-to-day duties. Having the ability to deep dive into historical data in terms of invoicing, payments, and in-depth customer information at an account level has been transformative for DPD, particularly around month-end closing.
Coupled with the added security and the ability to control access to financial data has brought peace of mind, as well as autonomy over the reporting process that may not have been achievable through the old system.
One of Thrive’s core function features is centred around bulk payment runs. DPD have found a huge benefit in Thrive’s ability to integrate remittance advice within the payments process, which automatically gets sent to each customer, further reducing the time involved in manual processes.
DPD Ireland is just one of our customer success stories, and we look forward to continued collaboration between our teams. You can check out some of our other success stories below.
